Outsourcing alternatives

In the last several years, service providers have begun to offer managed accounts operations as an outsourced capability. Turning to an outsourcer can help investment managers enter the managed account market quickly. Investment managers with established managed account businesses may consider outsourcing as a way to refocus internal resources on core competencies, and avoid the staffing and challenges associated with running operations in-house.

Deciding to outsource operations is a significant move for any investment manager. It involves carefully defining process flows between manager and outsourcer, as well as expected service levels and monitoring. Evaluating the service offerings of different outsourcers with respect to the manager's existing or desired operational processes requires examination of the outsourcer's core systems platforms, technology infrastructure, and service delivery model. Since managed account outsourcing is yet a new industry, comparing options can be challenging.
